Atrium Medical Center Foundation
From May 2024 to August 2024, I was an intern at the Atrium Medical Center (AMC) Foundation located in Middletown, Ohio. I was able to participate in brand building, community outreach, activism, project management and event planning. Along with being introduced to crisis communication scenarios and active communication techniques to build community connections.
I genuinely enjoyed my time at the Atrium Medical Center Foundation. Working with the
The Foundation has allowed me to be a member of the internal family of the Premier Health Medical system and understand the numerous moving parts that make a hospital and a healthcare system successful. Through experiencing the relationship cultivated by Atrium, I learned how to create a nurturing and productive environment for the surrounding community.
The Atrium Medical Center (AMC) Foundation was a great introduction to the
workforce and the work I will be facilitating as a Journalist-Public Relations Specialist. I have
gotten to know and be guided by very talented people, and have also had the opportunity to work on important community projects like the HEAL (Help Endure A Loss) Walk to Remember, the James A. Combs Memorial Golf Tournament, the Atrium Auxiliary, the AMC Foundation Scholarship Reception, and Highway to Help.
Through these events, I learned skills of virtual fundraising, silent
auctions, event planning and management. I cultivated important technical skills like mail
merges, increased my proficiency in graphic design tools like Canva Design, improved my
technical writing skills, and learned to manage the online fundraising application, GiveSmart.
I created table tents for the scholarship reception that detailed the scholarships and the lives of the people whose legacies are honored by them, getting to see who has taken the initiative, whether it be themselves or their families, to extend their community outreach after death has been an incredibly gratifying and humbling experience.
It was an honor to witness the collaboration between HEAL and the foundation to make a beautiful event for families and supporters, and to be allowed a place in that space by creating a beautiful backdrop for families to take pictures as a reminder of their loved ones and their healing journey.
I met the members of Atrium’s Heritage Society at their annual meeting and sat in for the Annual Fund Committee meeting, seeing the improvements being made to the Cancer and Infusion Center at Atrium through the joint efforts of the foundation and the hospital.
Working at the foundation was an eye-opening experience for me. It was a space where I was genuinely mentored and given space to learn.
There has never been a time when I felt inadequate for not knowing an answer, and I was always met with patience and nurturing hearts.
Every day at the Foundation was full of jokes and surprises that make it easy to feel welcome. I am profoundly grateful for this experience.
